Females usually give birth to 1-2 young. A newborn young weigh from 11 to 16 kg. The young gain 1 kg per day while they are nursing. They are completely weaned at five months. They stay with their mothers for at least a year after birth.

Females of moose attract males with their long, moaning vocalizations. This strident sound can be heard up to 3.2 km away. They also secrete a strong scent.
